JACOB'S LADDER

(Jauntie Julie x Wilson Spider) is a 38” x 7-1/2” late blooming diploid lavender quilled crispate unusual form with 3 way branching and a bud count of 15.  Named in honor of Jacob Rund, who died of cancer at age 9,  and named after the old spiritual played at his vespers service the night before his funeral.  The name was originally selected for a sibling, but the cultivar being introduced proved to be the superior performer.  Like BOOG'S WOOGIE, JACOB'S LADDER can occasionally be unruly, but when behaving, its form presents an excellent example  of crispation known as "quilling".  Appears to be pod infertile in full sun, but its pollen is good.  Because I grow seedlings at a location away from my home, my foliage habit observations have been rather limited, but the notes I have suggest that it's SEV-EV, so JACOB'S LADDER should grow well in a variety of climates.
